The word dollar comes from the German word Thaler, which was a large silver German coin. The dollar was one of the first silver coins made, in 1794. Since then the dollar coin has been minted periodically with different versions of Liberty like the Morgan Dollar 1878-1904 and again in 1921, Peace dollars 1921 – 1935 and other individuals on the obverse those of President Dwight D. Eisenhower (1971-1978), suffragist Susan B. Anthony (1979-1981, 1999), and Sacagawea in 2000. The Presidential $1 Coin Program launched in 2007. In 1979 The United States Mint introduced the Susan B. Anthony dollar coins and issues them from 1979 through 1981 and then again in 1999. Not often found in circulation, they are quite common and inexpensive. In fact most of them are worth face value so $1.00. Lets start with the basics, the Sacagawea dollar is a United States dollar coin first minted in 2000, although not minted for general circulation from 2002 to 2008 and again from 2012 onward due to its general unpopularity with the public and low business demand for the coin. It has a gold color but it is not made of gold, nor does it have any gold content.
